Christmas was sweet.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The best part was that I was able to talk to you! WOO! On Skype! It was awesome seeing everyone again. I cannot believe it has been almost 14 months without seeing you! It was awesome.

 

Nothing really happened this week that I haven't already told you... We had a few lessons with Maria Parra and are still working with her.

 

The other investigators are good. They are never home for the citas that we set, nor do they answer their phones... But, we keep on trying and trying! We have found some pretty cool people the last few days that we want to try and start to teach, but as of now, no new investigators last week.

 

Exchanges with Elder Belbin were pretty sweet too. I went to his area and we had a few lessons with some of the recent conversos.

 

Saturday was sweet too! We had a big breakfast planned out. All the missionaries cooked breakfast burritos for the ward and then we shared a cool Gospel message after. The plan was to have a bunch of members invite investigators and friends and stuff, but there wasn't much of that... But, it was a lot of fun!

 

Monday we had a super cool Christmas conference. I am kind of sad that my final Christmas in the mission has passed... I would like another Christmas in the field! Christmas in the MTC was an awesome experience and so was the one in the field. I am glad I had one of both! Monday and yesterday night we just sang to some members in the ward and some investigators. It was a lot of fun!

Domingo, dia de dos milagros

Oh man, domingo was sweet. We had more than dos milagros, but the only other number that starts with a D is doce (12) and we didn't have that many... So, I just put dos.

Anyways! Domingo was awesome. It started out all normal. We went to church, called our investigators to see if they were coming to church and they either didn't answer or told us no... :( So, sacrament meeting ended and we went to talk to some people to help us during the coming week with citas and whatnot. Then, we went to class, and it was super full, so we couldn't sit down. So, we started to go to a different class, and guess what I saw? OUR INVESTIGATOR, MARIA, IN THE CLASS. OMJ. She sent us a text during sacrament earlier than said she took a sleeping pill the night before because she couldn't sleep, and so she woke up super late and wasn't going to be able to come to church. BUT SHE DID. First investigator at church I have had in this area! IT WAS SWEET.

Another miracle was Elder Gneiting and Elder Belbin had a baptism! It was a super awesome baptism too. I have taught the guy (his name is Miguel) a few times on exchanges and he was so prepared. He beams happiness all the day! He is so cool. Since it is December and Christmas time, we all go out as a district on Sunday nights and go caroling! President Cook has prepared something called a "Live Christmas Card" that we go out and share the story of Christ's birth with a few Christmas songs. So, on Domingo night, we went to share it with Maria with Miguel! (he had just been baptized like, 1 hour earlier) She was crying during all the songs we sung, and the Spirit was definitely there. Then Miguel shared his testimony and it was AWESOME. Maria was crying during most of the thing and she called us angels! It was sweet. Domingo was pretty awesome.

We found a new investigator last week too! His name is Mario. He has been to jail a few times before, for long amounts of time. He said he was raised Catholic, but never read the Bible or studied scriptures or anything. But, when he was put in jail, he read the Bible a lot a really developed a love for it. So, we shared the Book of Mormon with him and he showed a lot of interest! We have another cita with him tomorrow, so hopefully he has read! He works a lot as a manufacturer of baseball equipment (him and Elder Jensen get along super well jaja).

Something else that was super cool that happened this week was that we reached out goal of 50 contactos! In our area, it is kind of difficult to reach our contacting goal because of all the streets there are because there aren't many people outside. Plus, we have like, 3 or 4 apartment complexes in our area, which makes it hard too, because if that is where we can get more contacts, but we don't have very many of them. But, Elder Jensen and I made the goal that we would finally reach it and we did! HOORAY! We also made the goal of knocking 1,000 doors this transfer, which is going to be hard because we have to knock like, 40 doors a day and we are already 60 behind... But! We are going to reach this goal too and it will be AWESOME.

We also taught Maria last night, and we think we finally found her problem: she knows everything already, but we think that she is waiting for a miracle. She has asked every member we have brought over, "What was your conversion like? How did you know it was true?" We think she is looking for a miracle answer, but we have to teach her that she has already found her answer, and she just needs to recognize it! We have some super sweet plans for a lesson with her tomorrow, so hopefully by the email next week she will have a baptism date! WOO!

So, the weather in Cali has been poor recently :( Ever since last week, it has rained at least once a day :( But! Rain > Snow, so I am okay with rain :) I love the rain! I will have to admit though, Christmas just isn't the same without snow... Christmas just isn't complete! Hopefully the snow you sent me will make up for it ;) jaja.

Sounds like James had a super good talk. I cannot wait to receive a letter from him! Colin had his farewell talk on Sunday too, and I heard it was pretty good. I cannot believe they are home now! Time goes by soooooooooooooooo fast... It's cool that he talked about the obedience thing. Yesterday at district meeting we had a huge thing on obedience. We decided that we aren't being bad missionaries, but we aren't being 100% obedient. But, that is going to change! We all want the Spirit to be with us more, and the only way we can do that is through obedience. So, we are going to do it! And to start it off, the alarm didn't go off this morning at 6:30, so we actually woke up at like, 6:40. What a good way to start off the obedience streak, huh? jaja I will look for that scripture for you! I know there are lots, but I don't know them off the top of my head. Lots of them are found in DyC.

I have been reading my Patriarchal blessing more frequently. I hadn't read it for such a long time (a few months) and I was talking to a member that just received his a few weeks ago and it gave me the desires to read mine again. It's super awesome, and I really need to read it more to help me to become a better person. Thanks for the reminder too!

I received the package! It's sweet. I have only opened like 3 presents, so I am waiting for Christmas! I have only eaten 10 Snickers from my tree because it is too cool to destroy! I will wait until after Christmas :)

DeVere and Toni were in San Marcos?! That's crazy! San Marcos Blvd is a long street, but if they crossed another street called Mission, or Woodland Parkway o Vineyard, by the library, then that is super close to where I live! That's so crazy!

Hopefully Grandpa gets better soon! Maybe I should get my gallbladder taken out too. It seems like the new, cool hip thing to do nowadays.

I have some pictures! One is our contact number, which was awesome. Another is a picture of our FIRST INVESTIGATOR AT CHURCH. And the other is a picture of the tree that Elder Jensen's family sent him. I bought a sweater and took a picture to send today, but it is on my other SD card... For some weird reason, my other SD card said it was full, so I switched them and forgot to bring the other one with me... So, next week you can see my AWESOME sweater. Good thing I bought it too, because it is COLD. Like, 50 degrees!

New transfer!

So, transfer calls were last Saturday and we are all staying! There was one hermana that is going home, but other than that, our entire zone is staying! I will most likely be leaving at the end of this transfer, so I have about 6 weeks left in San Marcos. Time is going to fly by :(

Elder Hunt & Elder Jensen planning for the week

So, this week was pretty good. We found new investigators! We found one through the hermanas, when they were in our area for the blitz. And actually, we haven't even taught her yet... But, the hermanas taught her and said she was pretty cool! Her name is Irma. We have tried to have a few lessons with her, but she has cancer in her eye, so she has lots of citas to go to and is hard to find in house. Our other investigador is Luis. We found him knocking on some doors. We had talked to some other people on the street a while back, and so we went to go check up on them, and we found Luis! He is from Vera Cruz, Mexico and has been here for 7 o 8 years. And his family is still in Mexico and he hasn't seen them since he came to the US! How crazy is that?! He says he talks to them every day, but not seeing your family for 7 years would be super difficult... He goes to some Apostolic church in Solana Beach, but has only recently started to go there. We are going to get him to change that though!

Do you remember about Margarito? HE was an investigator we found like 4 o 5 weeks ago. We finally were able to see him this past week and he dropped us. HE was like, "You know, I read the pamphlet of Jose SMith and I think you are all crazy for believing that. I am fine in my church and I am not willing to change." SO, that was kind of sad, but at least he was honest and didn't waste our time.

Yesterday was sweet. We had some appointments during the day, but they all fell through, so we went knocking! We knocked 23 doors! It was pretty awesome. Most of the houses were white people, but the a few of the Spanish people we found were awesome. We were talking to this one lady, Alma. We gave her a Libro de Mormon! It's difficult to give out a LDM on a door contact. What makes it even cooler is that she has been going to some Christian church for 25 years! It's super difficult to give a LDM on a door contact and even more so to give it to a person who has been going to their church for such a long time! We had a super good contact with her and made a return appointment for sometime this week. I am excited to see how it turns out!

Yesterday was a pretty big eye opener for me. I kept on thinking about how Colin and James were going home and how fast the time went. Two years is NOTHING, especially when doing the work of the Lord. Then I was reading from my journal after planning last night and I had a huge wave of feelings and the Spirit come over me. I almost started crying! I realized that I have been blessed so much in this past year, more than I can even imagine. I thought that I haven't been doing all that I could, and I needed to improve in the work. I read about the baptisms of Enrique, Manuel and Jennifer and realized all the miracles that had happened in order for those baptisms to occur; something I didn't notice back then. I have been blessed so much this year and I can't flatline now! I have to endure to the end and do all I can! And that is what I am going to do :)

So, I haven't counted exactly how many ties I have, but it's close to late 60s. I only need like 15 more in order to wear a different tie every day for 2 transfers! That would be SO SWEET. Out of all the people in the Escondido zone (Spanish), I do have the most ties. Most people have very few, like 10... I got blessed at the beginning of my mission with dying missionaries that gave me a lot of their ties :) And 50 cents a tie was too good to pass up! I originally was going to buy, like 6, but when she said 50 cents a piece, I couldn't turn it down!

 

Maria is doing good! We have had two lessons with her this week, and they were both super good. During our last lesson, she said the prayer and started crying! She said she doesn't feel worthy of being baptized or prepared enough to do so, so we are going to work on that. During one of our lessons, she said hermano Tippetts (the nephite) made her feel really good at church one time when she went, so we are going to have to bring in his Nephite powers during one of our lessons this week :)

I did receive the packages! Thank you! I have a fun time opening a new picture every day :) Where is the 25th though?!

I also received a wedding invitation from Elder Gibbons; remember him? he is being married 3 days after Christmas. Crazy!

That sounds like a dang cool stake conference. I wish I could have heard Elder Rasband speak! Elder Jensen said he came to the MTC when he was there. I do know a girl named Jennifer Palomino! That's cool she is going on a mission! When did Jordan McGregor return? James sent me an email last week telling me he was going home. Time goes by way too fast! It feels like just a few months ago I was at his house after his farewell talk...

Sounds like Jaxon had a fun adventure! Good thing that will never happen to me because I am staying in Cali forever! This morning it was like, 45 degrees and it was FREEZING. I cannot return to Utah!

Send me some pictures of the snow so that I can realize how much I LOVE California! :)

TIE LADY

So, today was pretty dang awesome. There is this lady down in Escondido. She is called "The Tie Lady", and for good reason. She has OVER 20,000 ties. OMJ. It's like missionary heaven. She usually sells her ties for a dollar each, but we brought four other missionaries with us (Elder Belbin, Elder Gneiting, Elder Goulding, and Elder Warren (the last two are English missionaries that live with Elder Belbin and Elder Gneiting)) and we told her we were from San Marcos, so she sold us our ties for 50 cents. FIFTY CENT TIES. OMJ. So, I spent like, 10 bucks and bought 20 ties. TWENTY BEAUTIFUL TIES. Missionary heaven. All the other missionaries bought about the same amount too. The Tie Lady made some good money today ;) jaja. Now I have like, 60+ ties that I don't know what to do with... Jajaja jk! I am going to wear them! Duh!

 

Last week was pretty sweet. Elder Gneiting and I had exchanges again last Tuesday. They were pretty long too; almost two days. This area has been struggling a little bit recently, so we had a few ideas on how to improve the work here. We taught a few lessons and met some pretty cool people.

 

We taught Maria Parra last Thursday! Guess what? She did her reading! That means she is PROGRESSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is the FIRST progressing investigator I have had in this area, so Elder Jensen and I were pretty dang excited. We stopped by last night to see how she was doing and she read the other chapter we gave her, so she is still progressing! HOORAY! We are going to teach her tomorrow and see when we can set her baptismal date for :) :) :)

 

Most of our other investigatores- we are still working on them. But, they will progress!!!

 

Something really cool happened yesterday too. We had a blitz! A blitz is when all the missionaries go into an area and just attack it to find more people. So, all the missionaries came to our area and blitzed it! IT was sweet. Now we have TONS of potentials to go and visit over the next few weeks. But, sadly, Elder Jensen became sick with some kind of bug yesterday afternoon... :( so, while all the missionaries were out working in our area, he was sick :( jaja it is kind of ironic having all the missionaries come to our area and work and then having us not actually doing anything. Well, not not anything. I was calling people and made two return appointments :) oh yeah! But yeah, the blitz was pretty cool. They don't happen very often, so it was sweet to be a part of one. (kinda. jaja)

 

So, with the promagrantes, I broke them apart and put all the seeds into a bag to snack on :) And I got 3 shirts dirty doing it! You think I would have learned after the first shirt... Thankfully the stains came out quickly. :)

 

Thanksgiving was pretty normal. We had tamales, some kind of Mexican fruit salad, and some pie! It was pretty good. Then we made a big circle around their dining room table and everyone shared the things for which they are grateful this year. It was pretty awesome and the Spirit was defintiely there.

 

Elder Jensen is doing fantastic. He has definitely improved in his time here. Trainers and their new missionaries are usually together for 3 months (2 transfers) and then President Cook usually splits them up. If I stay this transfer (which I probably will) this will be my longest area! 6 months! I hope I do stay. I really like this area, even though it is super white. My favorite area is definitely my first- Rancho. They say that your first area is always the best because that is your first experience with missionary work and you come to love the people like your own family. I hope to return back there sometime during the mission! With Elder Nealy ;)

 

That's so crazy everyone is getting married! Tell everyone congrats for me.

 

Baptisms are the best. Our ward is going to have 2 this weekend. This is the 7th weekend in a row that we have had a baptism! It's sweet.

 

Our apartment is nice. We live on the first floor. It has a living room, bathroom and bedroom. It isn't super big, but it's nice. I will take some pictures one day for you!

 

Christmas presents... I think something good for me would just be some money. I was thinking about buying a sweater sometime because my other one is really baggy... Maybe a watch too... I think that would probably be the best bet for me; just some money and then I can pick some things out that I would need. I will start asking around about Skype! There are a few technological families in our area, so I think we might be able to do so. That would be SWEET.

 

I haven't received packages yet, but probably on Saturday! I am excited!

Granada

So, this week has been pretty uneventful :( We didn't even teach one investigator... We had appointments with them, but then when we passed by, they were never home... And so when we tried to pass by unexpected, they never had time to sit down with us... So, we haven't taught any investigatores this week :(

 

We have spent a lot of finding time this past week. Sadly, the only things we have found are a bunch of white people and a bunch of Spanish people that are not willing to accept the Gospel... But! One thing Elder Toronto told me my first transfer has really stuck to me in my time here. He said, "Contacting and rejection are fuel for miracles." We have had a lot of both, so we are bound to be seeing a miracle soon!

 

Thanksgiving was fun too. I was on exchanges with Elder Belbin, Elder Gneiting's son. We had tamales for dinner! They were super good.

 

On Friday, we had a follow up meeting for trainers and their new missionaries. It was a big help in giving me ideas on how to help Elder Jensen become a better missionary.

 

So... That's really it for this week.

TEMPLO!

So, we went to the templo today. It was sweet. The San Diego temple is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome. We will have to go sometime.

 

So, I forgot my journal at home because we went straight to the library after the temple, but I have kept a pretty detailed agenda this transfer, so I can tell you what happened.

 

Tuesday: P-Day! Then we had a lesson with los Mendez. They gave us dinner and oh man, it was soooo good. I want to marry a Mexican so that I can have Mexican ALL THE TIME. Or maybe I could just learn :) we didn't really get anywhere in their progression. :( Lalo was out with his friends, and so we just taught Roselio, but he is pretty set in his ways right now, so there is not much progression with him... Hopefully one day though!

 

Wednesday: New investigadora! Her name is Maria. She is an antiguo. We had talked to her a lot of times, but finally had a sit down lesson with her. She's super awesome and seems really prepared. We are going to go and teach her this Friday! Can you say BAPTISM?

 

We had a mission wide conference on Friday. Since our mission is so small, all the missionaries gathered up and Elder Schwitzer (?) from the 2nd quorum of the Seventy came and talked to us. IT WAS SWEET. We did a few practices on how to improve our work and Elder Schwitzer taught us some pretty cool doctrine on how to improve ourselves too. It was a lot of fun! And since it was mission wide, we were able to see all the missionaries! All my missionary friends! YAY!

 

We also had some pretty cool miracles this week. We had a ward activity this week on Saturday for Thanksgiving. We tried inviting invesitgadores and menos activos so that we could get a huge turn out. We invited this one member, Guadalupe. Since I arrived in the area, we have tried like 2 or 3 times every 2 weeks to pass by. We taught her one time like 2 weeks ago, but before and after that, nothing... But! She and her husband (non-member) came to the ward party!!! And there was a baptism before that and they came to that too! WOO! It was awesome.

We also ran into this one guy named Flavio. He is super awesome. We asked him a bunch of questions of the soul like, "Where were you before this life?", "Where are we going after death?", "What is the purpose of this life?". He seemed really interested, but then told us that his friend is a testigo and gave him a book about those questions too... But, we didn't give up! There is a section in PMG about las preguntas del alma and there is like, 10 or so questions. So, we wrote them all down in a LDM and gave it to him and told him that this book is way better than any book the testigos could ever give you. He was really hesitant to take it (I don't know why), but he finally did. He is a super prepared man, we just need to attack him with the TRUTH!

 

Oh yeah, Elder Gneiting and I had exchanges Sunday and yesterday :) It's fun training, but it was nice to have an experienced missionary as a companion for a change.

 

So, pretty much everyone here calls me Elder Cazador (Hunter). It's pretty dang cool.

 

That's cool Maddy got glasses! I looked at the picture and she looks like a little miny Kelsey with glasses! jajajaja

 

Elder Hilton was the artist for the English class two weeks ago. I really liked doing it that way instead of the usual way I do it. Maybe this week I will have to draw some more pictures to go along with the words!

 

The weather this week has been perfect! Like usual. It gets kind of cold during the night, like 60s, but other than that, I love it! I don't ever want to go back to Utah :( It's November 20 today and there is no snow! It's basically like heaven here.

 

Thanks for the BYU scores! however, it is a huge disappointment that they lost... Oh well. Next game!

One year has passed. No puede ser!

My mind is absolutely blown that one year has passed... It certainly does not feel like one year... A lot less... But, we are still moving along en la obra del Senor! It is a lot of fun. This past week has been fun. Yesterday, we found a new investigator. His name is Margarito. He's strange. He is Apostolic. He believes in the Rapture. He believes that God and Jesus Christ are one Being and that when the rapture happens, Christ will come down and say, "Ha, just kidding! I was God and Christ the whole time! There's only one Being!" (exact words) Kind of strange. But, he kind of has an open mind about learning. He said he was going to read the folleto about Jose Smith before reading the Book of Mormon in order to find more about Jose.

 

This past week we also taught los Mendez, Roberto Avila, and Fabrisio (I don't remember if I told you about him. Probably.) So, the lesson with los Mendez was good. We mostly taught Roselio about the Plan de Salvacion so that he could know what we taught Gerardo too. We were getting ready to invite him to be baptized, we invited him and then he went on for like 20 minutes saying that he believes in his baptism because God has blessed him so much in his life and he doesn't need to be baptized again. He said he believes in all that we are teaching and he really likes that we come, but he just isn't going to be baptized again... But, on the bright side, when we were teaching, Gerardo actually helped us teach! He remembered all the things that we taught him! OMJ! That was awesome! even the spirit world! Nobody remembers the spirit world! So, we are going over again tonight to teach again. It is going to be sweet!

 

On Sunday we taught Roberto Avila. That was a super good lesson too. We talked about the Plan de Salvacion with him too. We taught him about baptism and the purpose of this life. We invited him to be baptized for the 8 de diciembre, and he said kind of yes! It was a soft date (not super yes nor not at all), so that's good. At the end of the lesson he said he wanted to spend more time with his family, so next Sunday: temples! YEAH.

 

Yesterday, we taught Fabrisio. He is the step-dad of Denya, the girl that has cancer. We haven't seen them very much, so we decided to start to try to see them more often. When we taught him, he basically said the same thing that Roselio said :( They go to some Christian church and are happy there and are going to stay... But, he said he likes us coming over and the spirit we bring, so maybe we will keep visiting and see if something happens.

 

Everything else is pretty much the same. haven't had any crazy contactos or anything this week...

 

Thanks for the package! I received it yesterday. It's awesome! This year has been the shortest year of my life!

Our last week's English class. We talked about weather!

Elder Jensen, My HIJO

Well, Elder Hunter Jensen is my hijo. He is from Moultonboro, New Hampshire! Elder Simmons was from North (or South, I don't remember) Carolina, then my next 4 companions were from Utah, and then Elder Lewis from Missouri, Elder Acaro from Peru and now Elder Jensen from New Hampshire! So, that's cool. He is a big baseball player. He had a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Virginia, but they wouldn't hold it for him for his mission, so he gave it up. (He's famous!)

 

Being a trainer is pretty scary! I have to teach a brand new missionary EVERYTHING in the mission. Everyone remembers their first companion the most, so I have to set a SUPER good example for him. This first week has been super crazy long because I have been worrying about how I am going to do everything, but now that it has been a week, everything has gotten a lot better.

 

Halloween was super exciting! (not) It was fun though. A misionera from the ward returned home on Wednesday night, and so we went to go and meet her. I have heard lots of stories about her and her mission for the past few months, so it was cool to see her return and what she was like! After we had dinner with that family, we had to go inside... But, it was actually fun! Elder Jensen and I studied Spanish for a while, helped him unpack his stuff, got to know each other better... It was fun. Definitely not something I want to do for a while though! Staying in at night is not fun! Sadly, nobody came and knocked on our door to ask for candy :( We decided we were going to give them Books of Mormon, instead of candy ;)

 

So, we taught some of our investigators this week. We taught la familia Mendez about the Restauracion again and then we taught Gerardo (the son) just by himself one time. It was AWESOME. We taught him about the Plan de Salvacion and the happiness we are able to receive from it. We asked him to talk to his family about him being baptized, and he said he would! It was a super awesome lesson. We kind of have a date with him for the 24, but it's really soft. He was going to come to church on Sunday, but his mom wanted the family to eat out at breakfast :( next week though! We also taught Roberto Avila about the Restauracion too. He is super interested in finding about which of all the churches is true. he knows there needs to be only one true church, but he just doesn't know what to do to find it. So, we taught him! Yay! :)

 

We have also had a lot of cool miracles out contacting and knocking doors. We were contacting one day and ran into this guy sitting on his driveway, chilling. When we approached him, he said to us, "You're Mormons, right? Well, I was raised Catholic and because of that now I am Agnostic. So, I don't have anything to say to you." So, we started to talk to him about his life and stuff, and we found out he played professional baseball! So, him and Elder Jensen made an instant connection. It was sweet. After that, he was telling us more about his life, that his lawyer is Mormon and how he really likes him because he is such a good guy and stuff. It is cool to see that everyone out there has this little love button and once you find it and push it, you can talk to them about anything!

 

We were out knocking doors on Sunday, and we knocked on this one door, and the dog started freaking out. So, the owner (a white guy) opened the door, saw that we were missionaries and said, "As you can see, my dog doesn't want to talk to you." Then he shut the door. People are crazy.

 

We haven't found any new investigators this week, but we are working hard to find them! We have had a few super awesome contacts, so we have some good potenciales this week.

 

Friday... 1 year... Shh! Don't say that! James is coming home sometime in December, along with Colin. I cannot believe they have been gone and are coming home! Time goes by too fast!

 

The weather down here is still super nice. It gets chilly during the night, but that's okay! I received my sweater from Elder Price! He gave it to me when he left :) it is really nice!

 

Today is Election Day! CRAZY! I didn't even know until we were driving to the library and everywhere had yellow signs that said Election Poll or whatever. WHo is going to win?!!?! You would be surprised by how many times I have been asked about Romney... Once. Way back in August, when I first came to San Marcos. But, I never see any Obama signs anywhere, only Romney! That would be so cool if he won!

 

I hate Daylight Savings. When we run in the mornings, it feels like 8 or 9 and like we should be inside studying... I don't like it!

My new son

So, Elder Acaro is leaving. Guess who is going to be my companion? I don't know! I was on exchanges with Elder Gneiting last Wednesday and President Cook gave us both a call and told us we were training... So, Elder Gneiting is training again and I am going to have a son! Woo! I am freaking out a little right now because he is going to be a brand new missionary fresh out of the MTC! OMJ! I'm scared. But, it will be fun! Elder Gneiting is staying here in San Marcos, so that will be cool. We had a meeting yesterday with President Cook about being trainers and it's a lot of stuff. We have to help them learn to be better missionaries than we are because in a few months, the number of missionaries is going to BOOM. President said right now we have about 175 or so missionaries. But, come February ish, we are going to have 250! OMJ! He also was talking about the MTC time that new missionaries are going to have. Like, English missionaries used to go for 3 weeks, now they are only going for 12 days, 8 of those days which are only training. He said the Church has even been talking about shortening it even more, like a week, or just sending the missionaries straight to the mission; no MTC. Crazy! The missionary numbers are booming! It is going to be an awesome thing to witness. 

 

This week was pretty good for us. Sadly, los Reyes always seem to be "busy" and we aren't able to teach them... We saw them once on Saturday, but it was someone's birthday, so we weren't able to have a lesson with them, but we helped them set up for the party. We have had a few lesson with los Mendez (Roselio and his family). They are doing good. The son, Gerardo, seems really interested. We shared with them the Restoration on Thursday. We brought a member with us, which turned out to be really good, because Roselio likes to talk A LOT. So, we arrived to the Apostasy part, and Roselio just talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked. So, we let him and the member talk between each other and taught the Apostasy, Restoration and Pray to know to Gerardo. He had some pretty good questions. They also offered us coffee (it was really cold that night) and so we taught them a little about the Word of Wisdom too. It was sweet. Other than those few investigators, we haven't really taught anyone :( We always seem to find new investigators, teach them a few times, and then they disappear! Why?! Maybe they need a little greenie fire ;)

 

It has been SUPER cold here lately. The mornings are FREEZING and no me gusta. Good thing I have a sweater!

 

Wednesday (Halloween) is going to be SWEET! (but not really) It will be my first day with my verdecito! We have to go in at 6. We study from 8-10, then we have district meeting 10-12, then we have to go to the store and buy food, finish studying (because now that I have a new missionary, we have to study 1 hour - personal, 2 hours - companion, 1 hour - language. It's crazy!) Then we have to go in a 6. So, we will only have like, 4 hours of actual work! But, it will be fun :) Send me pictures of Halloween!

 

 

OMJ! I am not even close to a year mark! Don't say that! I'm old :( but, my hijo will never know how much time I have! jajajajajaja! There is no such thing as too many ties! There is this one Elder in my zone (but he's leaving) that has like 80! I only have like 60! :) But, for my year mark, we can't burn clothing :( it's against the rules! :(

Last week of the transfer!

Wow. This transfer has gone by so quick! WHY?!?! (That's my new favorite word; Elder Acaro says it ALL the time! jajajaja he's so funny) Anyways, this is the last week of this transfer, and I am pretty sure Elder Acaro is going to English work. During my interview with President Cook, he said he really wants Elder Acaro to learn English, and so he is going to be putting him in English work. It's not 100%, but it's pretty certain. Hopefully this transfer with me has helped him out!

 

This week was pretty good. We found a few new investigators.

- We found this one guy, his name is Roselio. He is a super awesome guy. He collects stuff (clothing, food, etc.) to take down to Tijuana in order to donate it to the poor people there. He does it like once a month. He's a SUPER nice guy; he would make such a great Mormon! So, we met him about the first week of the transfer. We have helped him out a lot with his collecting and cable stripping (for money) and other stuff, and we finally had a sit down lesson with him on Friday. He is a super awesome guy, and hopefully will be baptized! We are teaching his son too, who is a lot like his dad.

 

- We received a referral from some English Elders of a guy named Roberto, like 40s. He is really cool too. He has a lot of questions about what the differences between all the churches are (especially catholic and Mormon). Also why there are so many churches. We taught him on Saturday. ANd guess what?! When we were shopping at Target today, we saw him! It was sweet!

 

- We were contacting in this one trailer park, knocking on doors that other missionaries had found before. We knocked on this one door and found a guy named Denis. He is about 25 years old and just invited us in right away! (Spanish people are so nice. I have yet to meet a white person that just lets us right in their house) Anyways, we taught him too! We don't know much about him because it was a quick lesson because we had to get home, but he was really excited to learn too!

 

The investigators we have now are... Good. They just don't want to progress! Los Reyes went like, crazy on Sunday when we taught them. They never really said they were Catholic before, but this visit they were saying that they were Catholic and they go to church every week and they believe in the Virgin... It was crazy. Alicia has a son that is SUPER Catholic and he was asking us crazy questions like: How many angels fell with Satan and Lucifer when God banished them down to the earth? How many times does God forgive us of our sins? Apparently, he thinks Satan and Lucifer are the same person and that only six angels fell down with them when God banished them here. He said he received that information from the Pope himself... Yeah. Also, that God only will forgive us once or twice. No more than that. If we sin once or twice, then God isn't going to forgive us because he knows we will just return to do it again. So. Crazy. But, apart from that, we are still going to teach the Reyes! Still haven't taught Angel though :( he's always busy playing football!

 

I don't know if I told you about Hugo. He is the spouse of a member. His whole family is baptized, except him. We picked him up about a month ago and have been teaching him every so often. But, when we reach the subject of baptism, he becomes mad and ends the lesson... So, we had hermano Tippetts come with us to a lesson. And the same thing happened :( So, we are still going to try to teach him, and just avoid the topic of baptism and hopefully, with time, his heart will soften up.

 

That's about all that has happened this week. It has been really rainy this past week. But, it's been nice! It has only poured like, 1 or 2 times (we were inside, thank goodness). But, other times it has just been a sprinkle.

 

There is a pond by our house, so last week on P-Day, Elder Acaro and I went and visited! It was nice just to sit on a bench and watch the ducks swim. The next day, a member gave us some duck food (why he had it, I have no idea). So, he gave some to us and today we are going to go and visit the ducks again!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I heard about the MTC week change! That's crazy! It will be nice to be at the MTC for less amount of time, and it will really put a bigger emphasis on preparation before the mission. I think it is a good idea! 2 weeks in the MTC for English missionaries... That's like a blink of an eye! Something that has also helped is a program they started (I don't know how long ago) when you arrive to the field. Instead of having one hour of companionship study with your trainer, you have two and have a special booklet that the Church has given us of things you have to go over. I think when I entered the mission it was pretty new, because my trainer didn't really know how to use it... They have put a lot more emphasis in the preparation in the first 3 months too. It's so cool!

I RODE A BIKE

This week was pretty good. I went on exchanges with Elder Hansen and Elder Robinson (another greenie that came in this transfer; Elder Driaza's greenie) When I was with Elder Hansen, we had the STRANGEST contact EVER. We were contacting on this street and we ran into this white guy who was walking really slow. So, we tried to give him a card, and he's like, "No, I already know all about the Mormons." So, Elder Hansen and I thought he was getting ready to bash with his, but then he started talking about aliens! ALIENS. He said stuff like that Noah and the ark was caused because aliens were having children with humans and that the angel Moroni was an alien talking to Joseph Smith and that even Joseph Smith was an alien himself! We talked to him for like, 20 minutes because he was so interesting. He said such weird stuff! We were pretty dumbfounded.

 

Exchanges with Elder Robinson were super good too. I RODE A BIKE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. But, it wasn't even my bike :( It was the bike of Elder Driaza :( But, it was fun! Their area is TINY (really it's like, 9 or 10 streets because it is so jam packed with Spanish people) so it was really easy to find people and talk to them.

 

There isn't a whole lot going on in our area as of now... :( We haven't found any new investigators for about 2 weeks, and the ones we have found, we hardly ever meet with because they never answer us :( but, we have been meeting with los Reyes quite often. Just Alicia and Rosa though. We still haven't seen Angel in forever :( but, Alicia and Rosa are doing good. They like it when we come over to teach, but they are really lazy and don't want to come to church :( But, we are progressing with them slowly!

 

We are also helping someone receive the Melquisedec priesthood! i don't know if I told you about him or not yet. His name is Arturo. When I was with Elder Lewis, we had made a goal to help him receive it. Like the second to last week of the transfer we finally were able to meet with him and he told us he was trying to prepare himself to receive it too! So, that was a cool miracle. So, Elder Acaro and I have been meeting with him and trying to help him prepare to receive the priesthood.

 

Yep, President Cook speaks Spanish! He served his mission in Mexico when Utah and Cali were still a part of Mexico (jaja jk jk). It's not like I am struggling with the language, it's just I feel like I have flatlined and I can't learn anymore. Which is definitely not true! I still have lots to learn! You would think having a companion that speaks Spanish as a native would help, but I don't even speak Spanish with him jaja. It's all in English! He's from Piura. He's really cool. Probably one of my favorite companions. His whole family are converts. He was baptized at 8, by his dad, but his mom and 2 sisters were just recently baptized, like within the past 3 or so years.

 

I hate running. We run for 20-30 minutes in the mornings and we just run around where we live. There is a golf course that we occasionally run through and a sweet dirt path on the side of some road. I still hate running though.

P.S. I had a little surgery on Saturday night. My nametag had been cracking, and little by little it finally broke :( It was on Saturday night with Elder Robinson, and it broke at like, 7 PM. So, I wasn't wearing a nametag for like, 2 hours! I felt naked :( But, I taped it, and now you can't even tell it's broken! (jk) I colored the tape black, so it doesn't look as bad. I am going to have to order a new one soon!

Conferencia!

I LOVED CONFERENCE. Conference is really just a holiday for missionaries. What's better than hearing men called by God speak to us? NOTHING. The announcement of missionary ages was CRAZY! The amount of missionaries is going to improve very rapidly. I have already heard lots of stories about young men here and brothers of missionaries already talking to their bishops in order for them to go on a mission. What is Jaxon going to do?! What was your favorite talk in Conference? Did the one by Elder Holland sound familiar? ;) It must be super important if he did it twice!

 

This week was filled with a lot of meetings and planning, so we weren't out very much :( We have had a few lessons with los Reyes this week and they have gone pretty good. Rosa (the daughter) has been praying at the end of the lessons and it has been sweet! Usually with investigators, their prayers are really short. But, with Rosa, she has super long prayers! It's really cool to see her have this desire to pray. She told us she has had lots of answers to prayers, but she has been praying to Maria Guadalupe... BAD. So, we taught her that she needs to pray to God, not the virgin Maria.

 

We had a cool little miracle after Conference on Saturday. I was on exchanges with Elder Hansen (which was weird because all we did was watch conference together, but we have another exchange next week, so it's all good) and we went to go and remind los Reyes of conference the next day. We had nothing to do that night (because all the Spanish people go to bed really early because they wake up really early) and so we were praying for something to do after reminding los Reyes about conference. So, when we were about to leave the complex of los Reyes, this guy comes up and talks to us and asks us a lot of questions (he was a basher). So, we talked to him the whole time and went home! We even gave him a Book of Mormon to answer his questions that he was asking us. it was sweet.

 

We had interviews with President Cook yesterday too. they were cool. He gave me some tips on Spanish so that I can improve even better. It was a good intervew. And at the zone training meeting (we have one every month to train us on things we can do better) we learned a lot of cool things about planning and helping investigators progress. Since the mission is really new and will keep becoming newer, President wanted us to practice the basic basic stuff in order to help all the newbies. It was fun.

 

That was really all my week. CONFERENCE WAS SWEET.

 

Jaxon is 18?! OMJ! OLDIE!

 

These past 11 months have gone by so quickly... It's scary! WHY?!?!?!

 

My health has been good. I probably told you, but Sister Cook requires that we run every morning and that really helps out a lot with the health. She has said that the average health cost for missionaries in this mission is like, 3 dollars a month and in other missions that it's like, 50! Wow! I still have a car (thank goodness!) I would hate to have a bike or walk in this area... There's like, no Spanish close to us :( We are super lucky to have a car!

 

Members here are great! We eat with members every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, sometimes Friday and sometimes Sunday. And the food I have eaten here is definitely the best I have had the whole mission!

So, cool miracles this week: We finally had a lesson with Angel!!! We were going to check up on all our investigators and potenciales on Tuesday night after P-Day, and we finally found Angel in house! And his family was there too! We were just going to set up a return appointment, because he said he was off to football practice. So, we set up the appointment, and asked him if there was anything we could do for him before we left. He asked us if we could say a prayer with him so that him and his family would be well. So, of course we had to teach him about how prayer really is! Soon enough, all of his family was there too! His mom, his sister and two of his brothers. His two brothers are "Catholic" (just anti other churches) so they didn't have any interes in what we were teaching. But, his mom and sister were really interested! Then, after we explained prayer, they had a bunch of other questions, so we got into deeper doctrine like Plan of Salvation, why there are so many churches and stuff. it was sweet! Sadly, we haven't seen Angel since then, because he is always practicing... But, we have taught his mom and sister a few times and they are really interested!

 

Something else that was cool that happened was that I finished my journal!!! YAY! I have written in my journal every single say since November 9, 2011 and I finally finished the first one! Now I started on the next one! YAY!

 

This past week we have spent a lot of time trying to find places where there are a lot of Spanish people. I would not be joking when I say that this area that I am in is 80% or more white people. We found a street the other day that we thought for sure was Spanish, but it turned out to be Chinese/Vietnamese/Japanese! It was crazy! There are lots of signs that you can tell a house is Spanish, so we are looking long and hard for those.

 

On Saturday, I had exchanges with Elder Gneiting! It was awesome. We had some meetings and service during the day, but the night was full of lessons. It's strange that on his side of San Marcos, there are TONS of Spanish, but on this side there are very few... It's weird how that works. But, we had some pretty sweet lessons. A big problem that I have seen in this area is that a lot of people don't understand priesthood keys. Like, the mom of the girl that we gave a blessing too, she told us that she could have done that too, all she needed was her Bibla and say a little prayer. She didn't really understand that with the priesthood is how the ordinance was performed. Lots of people are telling us, "I have already been baptized. Why do I need to do it again?" I am so glad to have the knowledge already of this Gospel! I cannot even imagine life without it... How do people live?!?!

 

GENERAL CONFERENCE IS NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I am so glad I am speaking Spanish. There are lots of countries I could visit that speak Spanish, plus there are TONS of people in the U.S. that speak it and I can use it whenever I want! Plus, Spanish is easy to learn! One of the easiest languages!

 

For the Strength of Youth pamphlet is SO good. It isn't just for youth, but for everyone! Did you read the new one they released just barely or the old one? The new one is super good. I still have my wallet sized one from Bishop Morgan :)

 

I have been out almost a year! OMJ! It's already October!!! Time goes by too quickly!!!

 

Yay BYU won and Westlake won!

Time goes by too fast!

On Saturday, we had a member (Hermana Mosqueda) from Ramona (a city close to Escondido that used to be in our mission but was taken out and given to San Diego about a year and a half ago) call us. She told us that she had someone for us to teach! So, Saturday night, we went over. It was a family of 4: Fabrisio (dad, from Chile), Yolanda (mom, from Mexico), Denya (19) and Allen (13). They said they had been taught a little by missionaries before, about 6 months ago, in Escondido. Then they moved to San Marcos and lost contact. Hermana Mosqueda from Ramona met them about 4 months ago and started to become their friends. She said last week that she had a really strong impression to call them up to set up an appointment with the missionaries. Denya has some sort of cancer and hermana Mosqueda said she was thinking of Denya and that she needed to bring the missionaries over to teach the family. We taught them about faith and that through faith and doing the things God asks of us, we can be healed. At the end of the lesson, we gave her a blessing! it was sweet!!! The family is really cool. The mom is a little duro, but I could see them being baptized soon.

 

On Friday (the day before), we got another new investigator! His name is Elias and we talked to him about Wednesday or something. He seems pretty cool.

 

Yesterday we were knocking on one street and we ran into this guy named Raul. We were talking to him about eternal families and he got really interested in the power of sealing families together after death. He has a wife and a 3 year old daughter. He also told us he was looking for a church to go to because the one he goes to now isn't satisfying. So, we are going to introduce him to the BEST church!

 

That's really all that happened this week. It was kind of slow, but it's flying by!

 

So, with the caterpillar... It wasn't cooked, I don't think. I chewed it and it was dead. And it tasted disgusting. But, now I can say I have eaten a caterpillar! WOO! Like I ate menudo! WOO!

 

Elder Acaro is a good companion. I have started to lose some Spanish because I speak so much English with him! haha. We get along pretty well. His area before was like, jam packed 100% Spanish people, and now that he has moved here, he thinks it's the same, but it's like jam packed 90% white people. So, that causes some conflict because he wants to do things like he did in his old area, but we work it out pretty good. I just figured this out the other day, but I am greenie busting! Crazy! Greenie busting Elder Nealy's brother! (because Elder Driaza trained Elder Nealy and Elder Acaro, so they are brothers) But, being with Elder Acaro is like teaching English classes all day! It's fun!

 

Only one new Spanish missionary came in, and Elder Driaza is training him! But, not for long because Elder Driaza goes home at the end of this transfer... I haven't met any of the English ones though. But that's okay, who needs English missionaries? ;)

 

I did receive all the packages! Thank you! I was going to send some pictures today, but I forgot my adapter thing... So, next week! Pinky promise!

 

Congrats to Maddy and her soccer team! The championship is super good! That's too bad they lost though :( Maybe next year!

 

I didn't send anything about the BYU game?! Maybe it was because I was so angry... haha jk, that's too bad they lost :( good thing they didn't play on Sunday though! ;) why did they lose to Boise State?!?!

New companion: Elder Acaro

So, I have another thing to add on my super weird items that I have eaten list. For a part of zone activity last week, we ate... Caterpillars!!! YAY! They were kind of gross and didn't taste very good, but now I can say I have eaten a caterpillar! WOO!

 

So, I am getting a new companion today. Usually we don't know who they are until Tuesday night during transfer meeting, but Elder Acaro is actually already serving in this ward, so they just decided to tell me so that he could just move his stuff here and not have to go through the big hassle of taking everything to transfer meeting and then bringing it all back. I don't know if I have told you anything about Elder Acaro before, but I worked with him for like, 4 or 5 hours when I was in Vista. He is from Peru, so he is learning English. He has improved a lot from when I saw him last! His area down is Escondido is PACKED with Spanish people. So, it's going to be a good learning experience for him with all these white people in San Marcos!

 

I was in English work again (for like, 6 hours). Elder Lewis received a call to be District Leader, so he went to a meeting on Friday. there is another Elder close by to us (in English) that received a call too, so Elder Lewis and the other Elder went to the meeting together and I stayed with Elder Campbell, the companion of the other Elder. It was a lot of fun, but I am so glad I am in Spanish work! We had a cool few lessons and I met some cool people.

 

So, 15 on 15... Not even close. There was one on 15 though! WOO! A little 9 year old girl was baptized, named Liahona. There's a long story to go with that name too... One of our ward members (we are pretty sure he is one of the three Nephites because he has so many crazy stories about missionary work and life and stuff) baptized this little girl's mom about 10 years ago. She was prego back then, and she still hadn't decided a name. So, this hermano told the mom Liahona would be a good name. She fell in love with it, and then named her baby that. But, then she went inactive in the church and stuff, stuff, stuff. But, then her daughter was baptized! So, at least we had one baptism on the 15th! YAY! (not from us though; Elder Gneiting and Elder Hansen)

 

Yesterday we had a cool experience. We were knocking in one complex and we knocked on this one door and this lady answered. We started to talk to her about the Gospel and stuff, but she didn't seem interested. So, we asked her if there was anyone else around that might be interested. She pointed to the door across from her and so we went and knocked it and taught a lesson! That's the first time that has ever happened to me! In all my time as a missionary (which is a lot), I have never seen that happen before. So, that was super cool. Sadly, the kid wasn't interested in us returning back, but it was still SWEET!

 

Yes, we are still teaching all of our new investigators we found! Sadly, we haven't seen them in like, a week... But, we are still trying! We actually got another one, but we are going to pass her off to the English missionaries, because she said she was more comfortable in English... Psh.

 

Angel Reyes was like, the #1 pick a few years ago in football. He was going to go to Texas, but had a fight with another player and got removed... He lived in Vegas, but moved here and was here when he got into the fight. That's all I could tell you about him. We haven't taught him anything yet, but hopefully soon!

 

I haven't received any packages yet, but I will tonight!

 

Tell Maddy congrats for me! And tell her when the soccer season is over and they are champions that she should BURN that shirt! omj (jk)

MILAGROS!

This last week was packed full of milagros! (miracles for you non-Spanish speakers) This week we got 4 new investigators! FOUR! That's more than I have had my whole first 4 four weeks here! We found this one lady, Patricia, in our complex about 2 weeks ago and told her we were sharing a message about Jesus Christ. That's one. A few days later, we were contacting in our complex again and we found another lady named Idilia. Guess what? She rents out a room in her apartment to Patricia! So, 3 of our new investigators live in the same apartment! The other one is Alberto, the husband of Patricia. So, when we went and taught them, we got to know them a lot more. They are Catholic but hardly ever go. So, since they don't go and since they study the word for themselves, they hardly know anything about even their own church... Like, they didn't even know what the Ten Commandments were... But, that's okay! Since they don't know anything about religion, they might as well learn the right stuff the first time! So, that was a cool miracle. We found three new investigators in the same house the same week! Our other investigator is Cecilia. Her husband was supposed to be in the lesson with us too, but he went to Mejico for something. His name is Joel. He is the cousin of one of the members of the obispado here. They seem like a really nice couple too and hopefully we can contact the husband too.

 

OMJ. The best thing happened on Sunday. We found... ANGEL REYES! YAY! Elder Lewis and I were both thinking that we hadn't tried to contact him in a long time, and WE FOUND HIM. Turns out the number he gave us was the number of his girlfriend, with whom he broke up like, 2 days after us talking with him. So, all the times we tried to call the number he gave us, it was actally his ex-girlfriend. We also forgot to write down his actual house number (we had the street), so we could never find him... BUT WE FOUND HIM!!! Remember the questions about baptism he had last time? Well, he still had those questions, but made himself even more golden by saying, "Oh, I think this life is just something where we are born, we work, pay bills, and then die." What fun would a life like that be?! Not fun at all! So, Angel is so ready for the Gospel right now! Oh man, it's going to be sweet when we finally are able to teach him.

 

So, yeah. That was the miracles for this week. This is the last week of this transfer, so we are expecting to see a lot more miracles this week! Everyone tells me I am going to be training this next transfer, and we will find out tomorrow! I kind of hope I do, because I love greenies and their greenie fire. They are just so dang cool!

 

So, the 15th is this weekend... I have no idea if we are going to have 15 baptisms or not... But, from what everyone has been saying about their investigators, probably not :( There are lots of marriage problems (divorce, people living with people with who they are not married but they cannot get married because their spouse still lives in Mexico and divorce papers take forever). So, I think the most we will have is like, 8 or 9. Which is still really good!

 

I haven't received any packages yet... Probably not until Friday or Saturday. I am excited though! Thanks for the sweet stuff!

 

Time goes by too quickly! It certainly does not feel like 10 months since I have been out! But, then at the same time, it feels like all I have done my whole life is just be a missionary! I cannot even remember what it is like to do things other than missionary things!

 

Well, that's all this week! We came early today because we have a zone activity at 11. It's going to be SWEET!!!
